Change Works' most popular service is a website start-up package for organisations that have secured one-off funding for a site but cannot pay ongoing fees for site updating and maintenance. I meet with them to clarify what they need from a site, design it with the current content in an attractive and user-friendly format, and give the client the basic training they need to make updates and additions themselves. This includes advice on domain names, hosting and software, with an emphasis on low cost and ease of use. The aim is to give non-techies a communications tool they can really use. Clients have been pleased by the availability of after-project support.
Of course I can also help with updating of existing sites (as I do for Stamford Harp Festival) and other web-related projects. I work in basic HTML and CSS, and have done a little bit of PHP and MySQL (like the online catalogue for the Religious Studies Resource Centre).
Non-web work has included writing and editing publications, conference reporting, project administration and strategic input, stretching back to Nottingham's Earth Summit Conference in 1992.
