Welcome! This is the website of Silver Branch Games, a small independent publisher of tabletop roleplaying games.
Truth & Justice: More Power
24/3/08 - I've just released a short supplement to Truth & Justice, the
PDQ superhero game from Atomic Sock Monkey Press. Entitled More Power,
it's a resource for creating powers in any T&J game, building on my
experience of converting my Legends Walk setting.
- A few short
optional rules ideas.
- Mini-articles about the versatility of Super Scale
and Vulnerabilities, size levels and themed powers.
- Over 40 power write-ups -
some familiar, some widely applicable and some just a little bit
quirky.
It's a 24-page PDF, price $3.95, available from Your Games Now,
RPGNow and DriveThru and arriving shortly at Indie Press Revolution.
The Arsenal of Heaven
23/3/08 - I'm pleased to announce that this is
now out! When it started it was going to be a quick
and simple project: well, we all know what happens
to those.
It's
a new entry in the NUGGETS series, based around
the same very short basic rules. The premise is
that modern people somehow acquire the power items
of ancient mythic figures - Thor's hammer, Monkey's
wishing staff, the sandals of Hermes and so on -
and get entangled in conflicts with shape-twisted
"demons" from outside our world as well
as other obstacles both magical and mundane. Arsenal
is written as a framework - it can be run in lots
of different styles, from young people taking on
an atmospheric and scary world they never suspected
to higher-powered anime-style monster hunters.
You can get it from the usual outlets as a 68-page
6"x9" book, in PDF and as a hardcopy from
IPR (currently on pre-order) and Lulu.
Update update
31/1/08 - Oops, another long gap. You haven't
missed a lot though.
The main thing to flag up is that Silver Branch
products are now on sale through Indie Press Revolution!
My store there currently has all the Questers, Legends
Walk and NUGGETS products in PDF, and the Questers
and Legends Walk - Truth & Justice Edition mainbooks
in print. The commission rate is just about the
lowest of the sales channels I use, so obviously
I'll be happy if you do your shopping there! Plus,
I'm in the company of lots of other great small
press products that are worth your attention.
The
earlier-mentioned job didn't last till the end of
the year, partly because that work-life balance
never did quite gel. Currently being a man of leisure
(if not means) I've got a draft of The Arsenal
of Heaven out to some folks for feedback and
hopefully playtest, and am working on Jaws of
the Six Serpents. (A few of you might have seen
a mock-up of the Jaws book at Dragonmeet
in December. Here's the cover.) Getting a revised
Albion out this year is now a firm plan.
Update
7/10/07 - Wow, long time since the last bit of
news! First thing to say is that I missed highlighting
the release of Pantheon: Mesopotamia for
Legends Walk - Truth & Justice Edition,
with gods, heroes and monsters from the ancient
civilisations of Sumer and Babylon in the region
that is modern Iraq. That's available from the usual
outlets.
The second thing is that I started a full-time
job in August, which was a bit of a shock to the
system and is the main reason why no other new stuff
has appeared. Unfortunately the plan involving a
rich widow didn't work out, so we're all stuck with
this one instead. Things are going to be slow and
erratic, but I hope to get a better grasp on the
old work-life balance and make some progress on
projects that are sitting part-finished.
What might those be, you ask? Jaws of the
Six Serpents is a sword-and-sorcery style fantasy
game using the PDQ system, aiming to be self-contained
in a small volume. It'll have its own setting and
notes for using it in other worlds towards the pulpy/gritty
end of fantasy. I've got pretty much all the art
in place, just need those troublesome words! The
Arsenal of Heaven is a new addition to the NUGGETS
line, a bit more substantial than its predecessors,
about modern-day folks who gain the power items
of ancient mythic figures - Thor's hammer, Monkey's
staff, etc - and get embroiled in supernatural battles.
It's looking like a particularly good fit for the
teen supernatural subgenre. And beyond that, I have
a twinkle in my eye for an Albion - Reforged
Edition, to correct the wobbly start that my
most long-term project got. Tinkering earlier in
the year made a promising start by getting rid of
a bunch of rules complications and making some layout
improvements, and of course there's the content
for the GM's book that's never reached publication.
